Cylindrical cells are mechanically consistent and easy to automate, but require many interconnects and good pack restraint. Prismatic cells can use space efficiently and reduce cell count, but need careful swelling control, compression and thermal design. Pouch cells can be light and space-efficient, but need robust mechanical support, protection and manufacturing quality.

Shape is not grade

Cell format does not tell you the chemistry, capacity, age, manufacturer or authenticity. Ask for traceability, matched groups, test data, BMS design, fuse protection and warranty. A well-designed pack of any shape can outperform a poorly assembled pack.
